Principal's Message - June 14, 2024

Hello Wales Families!

We hope that everyone had a great week.  We did at Wales!  This week we had a chilly, but fun day at our annual field day.  Some very brave children even did the water slide!  The day was a huge success!  Thanks to our PE teachers for organizing this fun day and to our volunteers for helping run our stations and cooking lunch and to all the Wales staff who helped make the day fun for all! Today we hosted our 3rd grade moving up day ceremony.  We are so proud of our third graders and all the hard work this year!

Next week our PE teachers were planning on hosting a fun run on Tuesday and most of our PE classes are being held outdoors.  The weather prediction is calling for very warm weather for a few days next week.  Our plan is to have children enjoy some outdoor time, rest in the shade, and have water available, we may walk a few laps if they are up to it and will have a couple of sprinklers set up on the sidewalk for students to enjoy.  Please be sure to dress your child in lightweight clothing that will be okay with getting wet, apply sunblock each morning, and send a refillable water bottle in with your child.

Monday we will host our 4th grade Moving up day ceremony in our Wales gym.  The doors will not open until 12:30 for our audience.  Please do not park in our driveway, directly in front of the school. This is our fire lane and needs to be kept clear of traffic.

As a mom of many, I have noticed that a few of my kiddos have been expressing some sadness over the school year coming to an end.   The end of the school year can be a stressful time for students.  Aiden is changing schools next year and has shared his worries about a new school and routines.  He also tells me almost every day that he is going to miss his teachers.  Aiden is experiencing a sense of loss at having to say goodbye and, although I know the new adventures around the corner for him are exciting and fun, I take a few moments in the evening before bed to let him tell me fun memories and stories from his class this year.  Listening to my son share positive memories and acknowledging his feelings will help him cope with sadness in the future, help him be ready to move on as we bend the corner into summer and gives us a few moments of special time to share each evening.

Next week is our last week of student attendance before summer recess.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Mrs. Morrison
